St. Cecilia Academy Breaks Ground on New Athletic and Wellness Center

On April 16, St. Cecilia Academy hosted an event celebrating the groundbreaking of a new 25,000+ square-foot Athletic and Wellness Center with more than 500 people in attendance, including the Most Reverend J. Mark Spalding, Bishop of Nashville.
This $16 million construction project marks one of the largest facility projects in St. Cecilia Academy’s 165-year history, representing the school’s commitment to providing every girl with the tools for athletic success and personal wellness. Designed to offer innovative athletic resources, the new Athletic and Wellness Center will also serve as a hub for wellness, community gatherings, pep rallies, dances, and more.

“Our hearts are filled with gratitude – for God’s providence, for the mission entrusted to us, and for the community whose love and generosity have brought us to this moment,” said Sister Dominic Quinn, O.P., President of Overbrook Catholic School and St. Cecilia Academy. “Today, we broke ground on the new St. Cecilia Academy Athletic and Wellness Center—a milestone not only for our campus but for Catholic education in Nashville.”

After welcoming special guests, students, parents, alumnae, faculty, and staff, Sister Dominic, O.P. invited Bishop Spalding to bless the new Athletic and Wellness site and lead the group in prayer.

Sister Josemaria, O.P., Principal of St. Cecilia Academy, explained, “This new building offers the space to impact every St. Cecilia student. It comes at an opportune moment and ensures that the well-rounded, virtuous St. Cecilia girl continues to flourish today and in the future.”

Multi-sport athletes and seniors Maggie Crosslin and Clara Stefansic spoke about their formation and the importance athletics played in building friendships, discipline, strength, and confidence.

“We know that athletics helps us grow in virtue and ultimately gives glory to God,” said Crosslin. “And we know that the girls who walk through those doors will bring heart, dedication, and the same spirit that has shaped our experiences here.” Stefansic added, “Even though we will not have the chance to use this new facility as students, we are all genuinely excited for the younger students who will. We have grown in our faith through our sports, and we know that same growth will continue for the students who follow us.”

A long-time presence on the St. Cecilia campus for more than 40 years, Francis Horn shared, “Today, we are moving forward with much gusto, creating an athletic and wellness space with programming specifically designed for girls and young women. I am grateful to all who are making this a reality.”

Developed in collaboration with Hastings Architecture, The Carter Group General Contractors, and Barge Civil Associates, this facility is set to feature a spacious 12,900-square-foot gymnasium, a 3,060-square-foot fitness area, a 2,270-square-foot lobby, and multiple team locker rooms and meeting spaces.

The facility is slated to open for the 2027-2028 academic year. To learn more, please visit www.stcecilia.edu.
