St. Cecilia Student Recognized by the Colonna Club for Excellence in English

Senior Grace Wehby was selected as this year's St. Cecilia Academy Colonna Club Literary Award recipient and was honored at their luncheon and award ceremony at Hillwood Country Club on April 14.
This award is given annually to the senior female student at each of the area Catholic high schools who has shown the greatest improvement or the highest standard of excellence in English. Selection is made by the St. Cecilia faculty, and the Colonna Club of Nashville honors the recipient with a college scholarship.

When Wehby learned of the recognition, she said she was “surprised and simultaneously thrilled.” She noted that St. Cecilia has always demanded the highest caliber of work from her in every subject, but especially in English. “Over the past four years, my English classes have challenged me to look at literature and rhetoric from varying perspectives,” she said. “With each unit and lesson, my limits have been tested, and my understanding of literature has evolved.”

The Colonna Club is the oldest Catholic women’s literary club in Nashville and celebrates its 102nd anniversary this year. Members meet monthly to pray, discuss good literature, and share their faith.
“I am extremely thankful to St. Cecilia for providing me with an environment that has fostered my love of reading and writing,” Wehby added. “And I am thankful to the Colonna Club for honoring me with the award.”
