The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognized St. Cecilia Academy senior Saba Michael as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.
Michael scored in the top one percent of last year's PSAT/NMSQT test takers and was selected from a pool of 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide to be named a Finalist. As a Finalist, she has an opportunity to receive one of the 6,930 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million.
“We are proud of Saba being named a Finalist,” said Sister Elise Fox, O.P., Vice Principal of Academics at St. Cecilia Academy. “This is a challenging test, and Saba’s accomplishment speaks to how she has embraced the education we offer at St. Cecilia Academy.”
Michael is involved in several leadership roles at SCA, including Head of Programming in Robotics, President of Tech for Theatre Guild, and Founder and President of the Book Club. She has won several visual arts awards for her drawings and paintings. A St. Cecilia Academy Ambassador, Michael volunteers at SMART Arts + Crafts, a second-hand art supply store that uses 100% of its profits to support intellectually disabled adults in Middle Tennessee. When asked about being named a National Merit Finalist, she said she was excited and happy to learn the news. She is a graduate of St. Edward School, a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, and is the daughter of Tsega Andemicael and Gebretnsae Gebreyesus.
