St. Cecilia Academy Runner Wins State Cross Country Championship

St. Cecilia Academy is pleased to announce that senior Maggie Crosslin won the girls TSSAA Division II Class A State Cross Country Championship on November 6.
“I am so proud of Maggie!” said Head Cross Country Coach Alexis Dean. “She has trained smart and worked hard for years to achieve this goal. It is wonderful to see her fulfill her dream of being a Cross Country State Champion.”

Crosslin’s time of 18:34 put her almost 30 full seconds ahead of her closest competitor from Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville. Other St. Cecilia student-athletes finishing in the top 50 were freshman Jezzy Wiest (20), junior Nora Arender (43), and sophomore Charlotte Blackburn (44). Crosslin was also the winner of the Metro and Regional Cross Country titles as she entered the State meet.

Earlier this year, Crosslin placed third in the TSSAA State Track & Field 800m at 2:17 and was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association DII-AA All-State Track & Field Team. Her performance earned her an invitation to the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia in June, where she competed in the Girls Championship 2000m Steeplechase.

She is an all-around St. Cecilia student, taking five AP classes this semester, while also serving as Captain of the Cross Country team, President of the National Honor Society, and a Student Council representative. Crosslin credits St. Cecilia, her family, and friends for her success. She said, “I would not be able to compete at this level without the support from my coaches, teammates, and friends.”

After a spirited clap-out for the team as they journeyed to the State meet, St. Cecilia also sent a bus of students, faculty, and staff to cheer on the Scarabs.
