St. Cecilia Academy rising sophomore, Sam Coplan, performed with Music City Strings during that organization’s international tour this summer. Coplan was one of 15 students chosen to travel with the group and played four shows across Alicante, Valencia, and Barcelona, Spain.
“I became involved with Music City Strings when I started taking lessons with one of the teachers in the program,” she said. Once she discovered that she was going to Spain, she learned and practiced the songs and the choreography they would perform. Coplan shared, “We had many rehearsals that prepared everyone by the time we left, so I felt ready.”
Music City Strings is one of the top educational string-performance ensembles in the country, whose mission is to conduct classes, workshops, and public performances to foster high-level music education for the students of Middle Tennessee. Along with performing, Music City Strings teaches students the different responsibilities that come with being on tour, such as cleaning up venues, organizing luggage, ensuring that instrument cases are packed, and more.
When asked why she was interested in an international experience, Coplan explained, “I decided to go to Spain because I love the group, and I love performing. I knew it would be an amazing opportunity, and traveling with my friends would be super fun, too.”
While reflecting on her travels, she said, “It was great performing, especially seeing the people in the audience having fun and interacting with us while we were on stage. I am so excited for our next tour!”
