St. Cecilia and Overbrook School developing new programs and opportunities for students
St. Cecilia Academy (SCA), a private all-girls Catholic high school in Nashville owned and operated by the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, announced that it will add a 7th and 8th grade program for girls beginning 2022-2023. As part of this change, Overbrook School (OS) will focus on a Catholic co-ed preschool through 6th grade program.

SCA and OS are working closely to ensure a smooth transition for the upcoming school year. The decision was driven by straightforward data with a review of 25 years of enrollment and current demographic data and an extensive junior high study that surveyed hundreds of parents, faculty and staff, alums, parents of alums as well as members of the Diocese of Nashville and both parochial and independent schools around the city.

As both boys and girls move on from OS after 6th grade, the school will work with students and their families to connect them with the best school options for their particular situation.
“This change provides the opportunity for deeper academic and spiritual formation rooted in the Dominican tradition,” said Sister Anna Laura, principal of St. Cecilia Academy. “We are excited to welcome 7th and 8th grade girls into our family and tailor programs to every girl’s gifts and talents starting in junior high.”
“We are excited for the opportunity to develop and focus even more intentionally on an already excellent preschool-6th grade co-ed program,” added Sister Marie Blanchette, principal at Overbrook School. “We're confident these changes will provide each and every student with an enriching experience of faith and academics.”

The changes on behalf of SCA and OS reflect the schools’ desire to best prepare junior high students for high school and for life through robust academic programs, competitive athletic teams, enriching fine arts programs and opportunities for social and spiritual growth. Both SCA and OS strive to cultivate an academically rigorous approach to educating students with a focus on their students' academic, spiritual and interpersonal development.
