St. Cecilia Academy News
After the election in June of a new Prioress General and General Council for the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, a new principal has been named for St. Cecilia Academy. Sister Anne Catherine, principal of St. Cecilia from 2012-2018, was elected Vicaress General for the Dominican Sisters, a position that works closely to assist the Prioress General. Because of increased responsibilities within the congregation, she will no longer continue as principal of St. Cecilia but will remain on the Dominican Campus as the Director of Advancement for St. Cecilia and Overbrook.
In her place as principal of St. Cecilia Academy will be Sister Anna Laura, O.P., no stranger to SCA. She was at St. Cecilia for 8 years between 1998 and 2009, teaching English and Religion and also serving as Vice Principal. For the last 7 years, Sister Anna Laura has been part of building a new private Catholic high school in Houston, Frassati Catholic High School (https://frassaticatholic.org/). In that assignment she was involved from the ground up in all the aspects of the school, from creating and writing curriculum to raising money, designing campus buildings, recruiting students, marketing the school, and creating student programming. Sister Anna Laura was instrumental in crafting and implementing the school's signature Ethics and Culture program, which applies Thomistic philosophical principles to contemporary culture. A native of Arkansas, Sister Anna Laura holds a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Dallas, a master's degree in Secondary Education from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Notre Dame. As Sister Anne Catherine said, "Sister Anna Laura will bring enthusiasm, creativity, and the passion of a master teacher to her leadership of St Cecilia Academy. I consider her presence a gift to SCA."
