SCA Senior Scores 1,000th Point
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 5, 2018) — On Tuesday, January 23, St. Cecilia Academy senior Gracey Gallagher scored her 1,000th point at a home basketball game versus Harpeth Hall. Gracey is the seventh player in school's history to achieve this accomplishment.
As soon as Gracey scored her 1,000 point, Coach Donna Brown-Wynn called a timeout for the team to congratulate her. "It was definitely a surprise. I had an idea that I was getting close, but thought it might happen later in the season. Even my brother called and told me he was coming to my game and it did not register to me. He lives in Arkansas," said Gracey.
"Coach Wynn called a time out and so many things were going through my mind. I even looked over, saw the 1,000 sign, and did not put it together. I was too focused on the game and what was about to happen."
SCA basketball Coach Wynn said, "Gracey is a phenomenal young lady with high values and morals. She exemplifies all that you should strive for as a student-athlete, working extremely hard in the classroom and on the court. She is exactly what every parent would want in their child, a girl who works hard, is kind and respectful. Gracey is a leader on the team, always supporting and encouraging her teammates, and will always run a drill twice if needed. She comes early and stays late, setting an example for everybody to follow. I am thankful that she is an SCA Scarab."
Gracey has been a four-year starter for the SCA varsity basketball team. As a sophomore, she received the Will to Win award from her coaches and was selected the 2016 All District team. As a junior, she received the Player of the Year award from her coaches and teammates and was selected to the 2017 All District team.
In addition to practices after school, Gracey has remained on the honor roll her entire time at St. Cecilia. Although Gracey has not yet made her college decision, she wants it definitely to involve playing basketball.
