Scarab Nation Athlete of the Week: Shelby Mryncza
Shelby Mryncza is the Scarab Nation Athlete of the Week! Shelby is a sophomore and one of the top runners on the Varsity Cross Country team. When asked about Shelby, Coach Bryan Picklesimer said, "Shelby is a very unique athlete with an incredible drive and dedication to always improving. She is a great leader on the team and sets the bar high for success." We sat down with Shelby to find out what makes her such a motivated and great leader.
Question: How long have you been playing this sport?
Answer: I began running cross country in 8th grade so three years.
Question: What do you love most about this sport?
Answer: For me, running is a great opportunity to de-stress and relax from the day, but I also love the competition aspect of racing. Racing gives me the opportunity to challenge myself against others.
Question: Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
Answer: I always like to listen to music to get me pumped up on the way to the race and praying with the team right before the race helps me get my mind in the right place.
Question: Do you have plans to compete collegiately?
Answer: Maybe, it is a ways away.
Question: How close are you all as a team?
Answer: Very close. My team truly is my second family.
Question: What are your goals for this season?
Answer: To continue to work hard and go under 20 minutes at Footlocker.
Question: What do you attribute your success to?
Answer: I have a very supportive family who encourages and push me.
Question: What is your favorite TV show?
Answer: The Office
Question: What is the top song on your playlist right now?
Answer: Karma Chameleon or You Make Me Feel Like Dancing

Question: If you could have dinner with anybody, dead or alive who would it be?
Question: What do you love most about being a Scarab?
Answer: My favorite part about being a Scarab is the relationships and connections this school offers. I am not only able to make life-long friends but also am able to meet alumnae while on a run or out in town and connect with them instantly by sharing a common interest in SCA.
