Six seventh-graders earn high scores on college entrance exam
Posted 05/07/2017 01:00PM

The Duke University seventh-grade Talent Identification Program identifies seventh-graders across the country based on standardized test scores. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exams as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. Overbrook had 22 seventh-grade students who qualified to participate in this program.

Of those students who qualified and took the college entrance exams, six qualified for state recognition by scoring approximately at or above the national average of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT. These students are invited to a special recognition ceremony held at Belmont University on Monday, May 8. They are:

Emi Gilmer

Anna Huber

Ellie Kenigson

Ellie Rodgers

Stevie Strickland

Ari Unguriat

In addition, Ellie Rodgers scored high enough to qualify for grand recognition by scoring approximately at or better than 90 percent of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT. She will be invited to a special recognition ceremony at Duke University. Only about 3 percent of all the participants in the talent search qualify for grand recognition. This is quite an achievement!
