OUR APPROACH TO COLLEGE COUNSELING
Choosing a college is an important decision and an exciting opportunity. With more than 3,000 colleges and universities in this country, students are faced with endless opportunities for their future.
Intelligent planning, an open mind, personal assessment and an organized search are essential for a sound choice, a choice that maximizes opportunities and offers the highest possibility for personal satisfaction and growth. The responsibility for these tasks rests primarily with the student, but others can and should be involved. Parents, counselors, teachers and friends, we all partner in the effort.
St. Cecilia’s college counseling program emphasizes a highly personal approach, with structured and sequential college selection programs beginning in the sophomore year. Small-group workshops, full-day college programs, individual student meetings, test prep sessions, parent college nights, and special events like Financial Aid Night, mock admissions committees, the Catholic College Fair and College Fair morning – with more than 100 colleges in attendance– provide many opportunities for college exploration and support. Students and parents also receive a handbook created by SCA’s College Counseling Office outlining in depth the college selection process.
It is our belief that there are many college “matches” for each student and that it is our role to facilitate the discovery of these matches.
College representatives, St. Cecilia Academy hosts college representatives throughout the school year before school from 7:20 to 7:50 a.m. We also encourage visits at the annual St. Cecilia Academy College Fair hosted on campus in September.
