Each January, St. Cecilia Academy offers a week-long Interim Program, an opportunity for students to explore non-traditional learning options through travel, internships, and on campus opportunities. The goal of these five days is to provide a time for students to explore the possibilities that exist within the world around us. From internships to travel to courses offered on-campus, this time allows the girls to encounter cultures, ideas, and experiences they might not have the opportunity to explore otherwise.
Freshmen and sophomores remain on campus and take courses taught by faculty, staff, alumnae, volunteers and other community members. Through interdisciplinary and interactive teaching methods, these courses are meant to encourage our students' critical thinking skills in order to promote a desire to learn that extends beyond Interim. Classes taught in the past include Rock Climbing, Zumba, Intro to Law, CPR Training, Doctor Who, Self Defense, Opera 101, Community Service, Country Music and Food, Money Management, Cooking, Driver’s Education, Yoga, CSI: St. Cecilia, and A Cultural Look at Japan.
In addition to the courses offered on campus, we offer 2-4 trips each year. Recently, we have traveled to Ireland, England, Washington, D.C., Arizona, France, Spain, Costa Rica, and Italy. The students are immersed in the culture of each city they visit and return home with memories to last a lifetime.
Juniors and seniors who do not travel have the opportunity to intern at area businesses in and around Nashville or worldwide. Students intern in California, Washington, D.C., New York, and all over Tennessee. Student interns make connections with professionals in their potential career fields and even reconnect during their college years for advice, college credit internships, and job opportunities.
