St. Cecilia Academy sophomore chosen for Sister Cities of Nashville Youth Advisory Board

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 31, 2017) — St. Cecilia Academy sophomore Schuyler Nunnally will serve on the Sister Cities of Nashville Youth Advisory Board. Sister Cities of Nashville (SCN) is a chapter of Sister Cities International, which is based in Washington D.C. SCN is a volunteer organization that connects Nashvillians with friends around the world through exchanges, cultural programs, and partnerships.

Implemented in 2010-2011, the Youth Advisory Board assists SCN mission to achieve its strategic goal of implementing excellent educational exchanges. The students chosen for the board exhibit an interest in and dedication to creating a diverse and multicultural world. Youth Advisory Board members attend three meetings a year where they learn about other cultures through in-depth discussions with immigrants and international fellows as well as with advocacy groups.

Claire Coleman, Director of Sister Cities Student Exchanges, adds, "Our Youth Advisory Board students are leaders among their peers. The students serve as outreach advocates in their schools and through a variety of community events. They are selected through their involvement in Sister Cities exchanges or hosting opportunities and demonstrating themselves to be leaders and multiculturally minded. Their unique insight will help shape programs for the future."

Schuyler served as an international ambassador for Nashville in the Sister City of Caen, France, for two weeks in June. The objective of the exchange was intercultural knowledge and relationship building with a focus on communities, service, and commitment. Schuyler is the first student from St. Cecilia Academy to serve on the SCN Youth Ambassador Board. "I am thrilled to be selected for the Advisory Board," says Schuyler. "I hope that I will represent St. Cecilia with honor."

Schuyler and the other members of the Youth Advisory Board will serve as student ambassadors from Nashville, welcoming international student delegates and supporting Sister Cities of Nashville's community efforts, including Celebrate Nashville, the Cherry Blossom Walk and Festival, and World of Friendship.
