Scarab Nation Athlete of the Week: Kate Dortch
Kate Dortch is the Scarab Nation Athlete of the Week. Kate is a junior and starting setter on the varsity volleyball team. When asked about Kate, head coach Sarah Cragon said, "Kate shows a great amount of leadership on the court as the setter. She stays focused and works hard to do what needs to be done for the team." We sat down with Kate to find out what makes her such a focused leader on the court and in life.
Question: How long have you been playing this sport?
Answer: I have been playing for about seven years.
Question: What do you love most about this sport?
Answer: The team aspect. Coming together as one to achieve a common goal makes it so special when it works.
Question: Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
Answer: We always pray as a team.
Question: Do you have plans to compete collegiately?
Question: What is your favorite TV show?
Question: What is the top song on your playlist right now?
Answer: Nothing right now. I am more of a 'put the playlist on shuffle' kind of girl.
Question: How close are you all as a team?
Answer: Very close. We are always there for each other on and off the court.
Question: What is your favorite snack food?
Answer: Protein Balls that one of my teammates makes.
Question: What are your goals for this season?
Answer: To play to the best of our ability. Staying positive and focused so we can reach our maximum potential.
Question: If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
Answer: Ed Sheeran
Question: What do you attribute your success to?
Answer: My dad. He has always been there for me, supporting, pushing, motivating, basically anything I needed to get better.
Question: What do you love most about being a Scarab?
Answer: The environment. It is such a family, loving place. Being at a school where I feel like I know everybody makes it such a unique and special school.
