Alumnae Volunteers

The volunteer spirit is alive and well at St. Cecilia Academy! Every year, many students, parents, alumnae, and friends of St. Cecilia lend their time and talent to helping the Academy and the community. Some of the student volunteer activities include periodically cooking meals at the local Ronald McDonald house, hosting an annual Christmas party for children from low-income families, raising money for breast cancer research, helping to clean and paint St. Louis Cathedral Academy in New Orleans and collecting items for the Crisis Pregnancy Support Center and for emergency disaster relief.

Alumnae lend their time and talent to helping the school by leading several major fundraising projects and/or activities for the school: Alumnae Association Board, Class Agents, the Development Committee, St. Cecilia Academy Songwriter’s Night, St. Cecilia Academy Golf Tournament, Interim Program and by serving as Guest Speakers.

St. Cecilia Academy Alumnae Association Board:
Approximately 2,300 alumnae currently comprise the St. Cecilia Academy Alumnae Association. A nominated and approved board of officers directs the activities of the Association. Volunteers from the alumnae body serve two-year terms as officers for the Alumnae Association. The Alumnae Association officers plan events throughout the year, such as the Memorial Mass, Christmas Open House, Easter Egg Hunt, and the Annual Alumnae Luncheon.

St. Cecilia Academy Class Agents:
The St. Cecilia Academy Class Agents support the SCA Alumnae Association by promoting St. Cecilia Academy and the Alumnae Association. Class agents encourage the Alumnae Association’s initiatives and fiscal support of the school.

Among the responsibilities are to:
• serve as an advocate for St. Cecilia Academy
• promote and encourage alumnae to attend the events via phone calls and/or emails to classmates
• assist with coordination and planning of milestone class year reunions by helping to identify and recruit alumnae from those classes celebrating reunions
• forward to the Alumnae Relations Office news about classmates to be included in the Class Notes section of the SCA Harpstrings Magazine, e.g. career accomplishments, marriages, births, etc.

St. Cecilia Academy Development Committee:
The Development Committee is comprised of individuals who have an interest in cultivating donors and requesting gifts on behalf of St. Cecilia Academy and its annual fund program. The committee has two primary roles: (1) oversight of the annual giving program, and (2) identification, cultivation and solicitation of potential donors to the annual fund.

St. Cecilia Academy Interim Program
Every January, juniors and seniors at St. Cecilia Academy have the opportunity to intern at a local business or with a local professional during the interim period. Internship sponsors for St. Cecilia Academy students are needed each year. Interim instructors are also needed for a variety of subject areas. If you have expertise in a particular area and are willing to teach a two-week course on the subject or host a St. Cecilia student for an internship, St. Cecilia Academy would like to hear from you! Find out more about the Interim Program.

St. Cecilia Academy Golf Tournament:
Traditionally held in September, this event involves alumnae, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of the school in a few rounds on the green. Volunteers are needed to help recruit players, solicit prizes for the teams, serve food at the event, and spot holes during the tournament. This is a great opportunity to gather together some colleagues or fellow alumnae and polish up your game!

St. Cecilia Academy Songwriters' Night
The Parents' Association hosts this always-anticipated event in February, inviting some of Nashville's best music talent for an evening of story, song, and guaranteed laughs. Every year, guests pack a sold-out house. The SCA Parents' Association directs the proceeds from this event to various programs to help the education of the young women at St. Cecilia Academy. The Parents' Association is a volunteer group whose main purpose is to enrich their daughters' educational experience while also serving as good–will ambassadors for the school. Volunteers are needed to help plan the Songwriters' Night, solicit auction items, and decorate for the event.

St. Cecilia Academy Guest Speakers
Every year, alumnae volunteers return to St. Cecilia Academy to participate in alumnae panels and/or to give talks to the students. The experiences of our alumnae are invaluable when speaking to our students at a college panel and prospective students at admissions informational sessions.
