Q: Is there a student handbook? Available for PDF download?
A: Yes, and it can be downloaded in PDF format. This is the student handbook for the 2011-2012 school year.
Q: How many classes does a student take at one time?
A: St. Cecilia has an eight-class workload. There are only seven periods in a day, with one different period rotating out every day. Therefore, students have an opportunity to take eight classes, or have seven plus a study hall.
Q: What is the average class size?
A: 13
Q: What if my child would like to take two languages or two sciences simultaneously?
A: This is possible as long as she is able to complete the rest of the requirements for graduation. The academic counselor works with each student and her parents to plan out an academic program that maximizes each girl's academic experience here at St. Cecilia.
Q: Where do your graduates typically attend college?
A: St. Cecilia graduates attend a wide variety of colleges and universities. In the past 5 years, some graduates have been accepted at Johns Hopkins University, Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Vanderbilt University, Rice University, Wake Forest University, Harvard University, Washington University, as well as a variety of Catholic, private, and state universities. For a more complete list of colleges and more information on St. Cecilia, please see the SCA matriculation list.
Q: How can I contact my daughter's teacher?
A: Early in September, parents are encouraged to attend Parents Night where they will have the opportunity to meet each of their daughter's teachers. At that time, each teacher will explain the most effective way to contact him or her. Later in the fall, parents are encouraged to attend parent/teacher conferences about their daughter's academic progress. If a parent has a question at any time, he or she is encouraged to call the school.
For information on your daughter's grades, St. Cecilia Academy uses Powerschool. At the beginning of the school year, you will receive a Powerschool Username and Password. You can access your daughter's grades at any time online. You can also contact a faculty member using our online form.
For questions regarding Powerschool access and the email form, please contact the front office Becky Simon at 298-4524 ext. 376.
Q: Do you provide transportation?
A: Yes. St. Cecilia Academy has an agreement with Montgomery Bell Academy to provide morning bus transportation with three routes as a service and convenience for St. Cecilia families who live in Rutherford County, Wilson County, and Williamson County. Click here for complete information on routes, pricing, registration form and who to contact for more information.
Q: Who will call me when my daughter is hurt or ill?
A: Normally the administrative assistant will contact parents if any problem arises during the school day.
Q: Whom do I call if my daughter will be absent?
A: Call Mrs. Hayes, the administrative assistant at (615) 298-4525. Then send a note explaining the reason for the absence with your daughter when she returns.
Q: How can I get a message to my daughter?
A: Call the front office. That message will then be passed on to your daughter.
