The St. Cecilia Academy Class of 2009 earned nearly $4.6 million in college scholarships from universities across the United States. A total of 78% of the class of 42 girls earned a college scholarship.
The seniors were accepted to 115 colleges in 30 states and will be attending colleges in 14 different states. Members of this class earned three perfect scores on the ACT in English, reading and science. Senior Liz Dedman was named Davidson County Mock Trial Best Prosecution Attorney 2009 and Kristen Burns placed fifth in shot put at the state track meet in May.
"These years have given us a better sense of who we are and who we want to be," said Salutatorian Hadiya Housepian at commencement. "We have used this waiting for spring of 2009, as an opportunity to contemplate on truth and better understand our own identities."
"We have learned to fight for our happiness, to value ourselves, to help a friend in crisis, to give back to our communities, and to establish independently our faith."
